Set during the early 1920s Hollywood silent film era before meeting Gru, the Minions accidentally stumble onto a movie set and unexpectedly become overnight movie stars. However, as the industry transitions into the "talkies" sound era, their inability to speak anything other than Minionese leaves them abandoned by Hollywood. In an attempt to produce their own horror film, they use an ancient spellbook to summon real monsters, accidentally unleashing a world-ending demon that forces them into a chaotic adventure to save the planet.
